Y Area Neighborhood Profile

Located at the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 89, the Y Area is surrounded by numerous restaurants, shops, and businesses. The area cleverly got it’s name because the main intersection where Lake Tahoe Blvd, Highway 89 and Highway 50 intersect is shaped like a “Y”. Head west on Highway 89 and you’re only about 7 minutes from Camp Richardson Resort, an area with campgrounds, cabins, a general store, ice cream parlor, bike rentals, the Beacon restaurant and the marina. It’s a fun place for the summer with the beach and camping and in the winter they offer cross country skiing and snowshoeing. At the Y intersection there are 3 different shopping centers – one has the local grocery stores and other small shops, the Lampson Plaza Shopping Center has lots of shopping options, and at the South Four Center Shopping Center during the summer they hold numerous craft fairs.

The Y area neighborhood is also about 25 minutes from Sierra At Tahoe ski resort, and both Heavenly Ski Resort and Stateline are about 13 minutes away. The homes in this neighborhood are a combination of Tahoe cabins, chalets, multi-units, apartments, mobile home park and newer construction homes. There are also some hotels and motels on the edge of The Y neighborhood that face Emerald Bay Rd. It is also located at the bottom of the hill where the South Tahoe High School is located. Near the highschool are lots of hiking and biking trails where you can escape into the beautiful woods of Tahoe. This is a great place to live if you want to be close to everything!

Orchids Authentic Thai Food (530.544.5541) 2180 Lake Tahoe Boulevard– the food is delicious and they have a great lunch special
Beach Hut Deli – a great local hangout with good deli sandwiches- great vibe, great food, great people
Lake Tahoe Pizza Company – a Tahoe classic, this is a family owned pizza place with some of the most satisfying food – definitely try one of their “chips” and/or their salad bar in addition to the pizza!
Ernie’s Coffee Shop – a fantastic diner with lots of breakfast and lunch options, they also have daily specials – check em out when you’re there
Casto Chiropractic – Dr. Nichole Casto is a Tahoe local and a great chiropractor– very friendly staff and comfortable environment
